S.D. (UJ Sports Information) – The University of Jamestown basketball teams traveled to Madison to battle Dakota State on Friday night in a NSAA doubleheader.
WBB: #13 Jimmies 91, Dakota State 60
The #13 Jimmie women’s basketball team used a 54-point second half to build upon a 14-point halftime lead and won their 30th consectuive NSAA game, 91-60 over the Dakota State (S.D). University Trojans.
Kyra Dewald (SR/Jamestown, ND), one of four UJ players in double figures, led the Jimmies with 17 points. Alexis Watts (SR/Miller, SD) had a season-high 16 points, four rebounds, and four assists, Taylor Hammer (SR/Grand Forks, ND) recorded a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds, and Bryn Woodside (JR/Albert Lea, MN) added 12 points.
Jamestown led by 17 at the half, but were unable to extend their lead after the third, as the Trojans shot 11-for-16 from the field and matched the Jimmies with 26 points in the quarter.
UJ opened the fourth by scoring the first ten points to go up 24, 73-49. with 8:47 left.
The win improved Jamestown to 14-4 overall and 9-0 in NSAA play. Dakota State falls to 4-16 overall and 2-7 in the NSAA.
MBB: Dakota State 79, Jimmies 73
The Jimmie men’s basketball team found itself down 13 points with 10:18 left and rallied to get within two points with 73 seconds to play before falling 79-73 to the Dakota State (S.D.) University Trojans.
Jamestown shot 16 of 34 in the first half but were only 2 for 9 from long distance, trailing 40-35 at the break.
Logan Brown (SR/Roseville, Minn.)’s three-pointer at 17:39 of the second half made the score 44-43 Trojans, but the home team went on a 19-7 run over the next seven-plus minutes to build the 13-point advantage.
After Tanner Heiser’s bucket gave Dakota State a 75-66 lead with 2:34 left, Riley Henderson (SO/Bismarck, N.D.) scored UJ’s next seven points to bring Jamestown within two at 75-73. However, a pair of Heiser free throws and an Ian Barse basket put the game away for the Trojans.
Jacob Havron (SR/Pukalani, Hawaii) posted his third double-double of the season, finishing with 17 points and 13 rebounds. Jake Hagler(SR/Cando, N.D.) added 16 points and six rebounds. Kiwane Crowder(JR/Milwaukee, Wis.) had 10 points off the bench.
Kyle Kilgore led all scorers with 29 points for DSU (10-11, 4-5 NSAA). Kevin Daniels chipped in with 16 and Heiser finished with 12.
