CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The search for a new Police Chief in Valley City is over.

The City Commission selected Acting Police Chief Phil Hatcher during their regular meeting on January 17th to replace retired Chief Fred Thompson.

City Administrator David Schelkoph talked about why city officials decided it was better to hire someone qualified within the department.

Police Chief Phil Hatcher had this reaction after the commission unanimously approved of selecting him to lead the department.

Schelkoph said this will save the city time and money by not having to select a review committee and conduct a lengthy interview process over the course of the next three or four months.
