CITY (NewsDakota.com)- Valley City couldn’t get Shanley the 2nd time around in the home side of the season match up. The Deacons doubled up The Hi-Liners 63-30 in the girl’s game to extend their winning streak to 4 games. In the boys’ contest Valley City’s rally came up just short in a 71-67 loss. EDC leading scorer Emily Dietz tallied 17 points to lead The Deacons past Valley City 62-30. Valley City kept the game tied at 2 early on in the opening half, after a time out Shanley pulled away and was up 35-11 at intermission. McKenna Taylor scored 8 points for Valley City, Mckenzie Pederson added 6 points and 6 rebounds. Tayrn Dieterle collected 12 boards and 4 points. Shanley’s Ciara Berg joined teammate Emily Dietz in double figures with 10.

Valley City nearly pulled off the come back. Tied 60-60 with 2:16 left the Deacons’ Jake Kava had 6 consecutive points to give Shanley a 67-60 edge. Nate Rodriguez willed his team back into it with 5 points of his own but 67-65 is the closest The Hi-Liners would get. Rodriguez finished with a season high 34 points behind 5 3 pointers, Levi Nix scored 17 and Matt Lyter 11. Kava paced Shanley with 26 points, Jake Reinholz added 12.
