N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Pipestem Dam Manager Bob Martin will be tracking and monitoring snow and precipitation totals every two weeks through the rest of the winter.
Some concerns have been raised about the total snowfall so far for the winter of 2016 and the beginning of 2017. When measuring snow fall, Martin also finds the equivalent of moisture if the snow were to melt. He says in 2011 when it snowed a lot and the Spring saw major flooding, Jamestown had a lot of snow and moisture reported.

This winter so far, Jamestown is seeing a lot more snowfall, but less moisture.

Martin says the main concern of residents should be the moisture. Although this winter’s moisture levels are not as high as 2011, there are a lot of potential factors that could be detrimental in the spring.

Martin has been keeping track of both snowfall and moisture totals since 1997. He says 2016 was the wettest year the area has seen.
