N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The final day of the Stutsman County Invitational Boys Basketball tourney was on Saturday afternoon with four games, here are the results:
7th place – Medina/Pingree/Buchanan 68 Midkota 41
MPB shot 47% from the field and Lawton Allen had 22 and 11 rebounds to help the Thunder take home seventh place at the tourney at the Jamestown Civic Center. Midkota was led by Mason Smith with 13 points and 14 rebounds. MPB improves to 2-4, Midkota drops to 0-6.
5th place – Edgeley/Kulm/Montpelier 51 South Border 41
The Rebels defense caused 19 turnovers and Lane Hanson had 14 points to help EKM defeat the Mustangs. Alex Ruff had 13 to lead SB. EKM improves to 2-4, SB drops to 3-3.
3rd place – Kidder County 59 Napoleon/Gackle-Streeter 45
Austin Schmidt had 20 points including six 3-pointers to help the Pirates take home third place over the Imperials. William Kleppe had 13 points. KC is now 5-2, NGS drops to 2-4.
Championship – Carrington 61 Ellendale 59
In the battle of the Cardinals, Senior Bryce Edland had 20 points and eight rebounds, including the game winner for Carrington to help the Cardinals take home the championship for the first time in three years. Garrett Bickett had 14 points as well for Carrington. Ellendale was led by Senior Brennan Vance with 23 points, Luke Wertz had 14 points and 10 rebounds. No. 10 Carrington improves to a perfect 8-0, Ellendale drops to 4-3. The game featured 10 lead changes and six ties. Carrington led by 10 points at the half, but Carrington committed six turnovers in the third quarter and only scored eight points compared to 19 points from Ellendale. The Cardinals of Ellendale had the one point lead going into the fourth quarter, 43-42. As time was winding down in the fourth quarter, the score was tied at 59, Carrington drove the court with 11 seconds left, and Edland scored the game winner from about 16 feet away with 1.8 seconds left. Ellendale had to go the length of the court for a shot at the win, the ball would get tipped at mid court. Ellendale would get it in and would get a good look at the buzzer from 3-point land, but the ball hit the glass and didn’t go in.
