N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – City crews in both Jamestown and Carrington were busy Thursday afternoon with water main breaks in their respective communities.
In Jamestown, a water main break was reported along First Avenue North between 10th Street and 13th Street NW. The first break was banded and when water was turned back on, another break occurred about 100 feet North of the first break. Several other small leaks were found and banded before water was turned on again and the excavation was filled back in.
Officials say the cause of the break is more likely the age of the pipes rather than the cold weather.
In Carrington, a water main break was reported around 2 PM Thursday. Fire Chief Ken Wangen with the Carrington Fire Department reports that the cause of the water main break is not known at this time.
“Water overran the curb and got into the house,” Wangen reports in an e-mail.
“As far as the house goes we pumped about 12 inches of water out of the basement. It was not a finished basement but the furnace and water heater were partially submerged.”
