CITY, N.D. – (NewsDakota.com) Former mayor Bob Werkhoven is a retired PE 1198 engineer. He and other citizens expressed their concern about two breaks that have occurred to the sanitary sewer force main near the Gaukler Family Wellness Center over a six month period.
The last break occurred in early December. Werkhoven said luckily, the fluids did not find a porous vein in the soil and cause cavitation under the wellness center perhaps resulting in some structural instability at the location.
Werkhoven and other citizens would like to know what caused these breaks and what is the city doing to remedy the situation.
Valley City Administrator David Schelkoph told NewsDakota.com that a piece of equipment failed twice and the cause of the failure is currently under investigation.
He said the investigation is centering on whether the manufacturer is at fault or whether installation error is to blame.
Schelkoph said any citizen with questions about this incident should call his office in city hall. He said concerns like this should be addressed to the city being it’s a city issue.
Schelkoph wasn’t sure how long the investigation would take to be completed.
