N.D. (NewsDakota.com)—–The Carrington girls basketball team picked up their 9th win of the season without a loss, defeating Ellendale 60-39. In a battle of the Cardinals, it was Ellendale that took an early 9-2 lead and led 13-12 at the end of the 1st quarter. Carrington, showed a little rust offensively early after a 15 day layoff over the holidays. Carrington would take over the lead for good late in the second quarter and rolled to the 21 point victory.
Jill Endres had a double-double to lead Carrington with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Endres also finished the night with a game high 4 blocked shots. Freshman Bella Hone finished the game with 10 points and senior Maara Nelson returned to the court for the first time since December 10th (ankle injury) and also added 10 points and 4 steals. Carrington’s back court trio of guards (Haley Hewitt, Abigail Jarrett, and Emerson Hoornaert) frustrated Ellendale with pressure defense that helped create 20 Ellendale turnovers. Hewitt added 7 points, 6 assists, 6 rebounds, and 4 steals, Jarrett had 7 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals, and Hoornaert finished with 6 points, 4 assists, 4 rebounds, and 3 steals. Ellendale was paced by Josie Henningsen’s game high 12 points (all in second half) and Katelyn Dathe added 10 points.
Ellendale dropped its overall record to 3-6 (0-2 District 5), and Carrington improved to 9-0 overall and 2-0 in District 5. Carrington will travel to Leal on Monday night for another District 5 matchup versus BCN. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 and the game will be aired on AM 1600 KDAK and also at www.newsdakota.com
