CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Attorney Corey J. Quinton argued that a future jury pool could be tainted by having the media broadcast sensitive information released before a pending trial to defend his client in a wrongful death lawsuit brought by John and Tammy Sadek concerning their son’s death while he was a confidential informant.
Quinton said anything discussed between the two parties attorney’s should not be released to the public or media before the trial or during the discovery process between the respective attorney’s in this case.
Quinton represents Richland County and deputy Jason Weber who recruited Andrew Sadek to be a confidential informant after he was arrested for selling 3.3 grams of marijuana back in 2013.
During a hearing in Valley City, Judge Jay Schmitz said the case shouldn’t be tried in the media, but he said a number of documents are already available or open to the public and he didn’t think he had the authority to issue any gag order in this case.
Attorney Tim O’Keeffe who represents the Sadek family said the incident is still being investigated by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and he doesn’t believe it’s the right time to comment on the case.
Judge Schmitz told both attorneys to have their respective responses ready for the court by Friday, January 13th.
