MN (VCSUVikings.com)-The Valley City State men’s basketball team lost in overtime Friday night, dropping a thrilling 99-96 contest at Concordia-Moorhead.

The Vikings and Cobbers ended regulation tied at 83-83 before Concordia outscored the Vikings 16-13 in the extra frame. The game featured nine ties and 11 lead changes.

VCSU drops to 11-8 overall. Concordia improves to 5-3 overall. It was VCSU’s final non-conference game of the season. The Vikings will now play 11 straight conference games starting Jan. 6 at the University of Jamestown.

Jayden Ferguson set a new career-high with 36 points in the loss. The VCSU junior forward played 42 minutes and went 13-for-20 from the field. Rashad Satahoo played a team-high 43 minutes for the Vikings and dropped 25 points. He shot 9-for-14 overall and was 4-for-7 on 3’s. Austin Dunbar added 13 points and nine rebounds, and Austin Rambow scored nine points off the bench.

VCSU led by as many as 14 points in the first half and 10 points in the second half before Concordia rallied to force overtime. Tied 80-80 with 1:01 remaining, VCSU’s Alex Quist nailed a 3 to put the Vikings up 83-80. Concordia’s Dylan Alderman made two free throws with six seconds left to tie the game at 83-83, and VCSU was unable to get off a good shot at the end of regulation.

The Vikings shot 53 percent overall (34-64), 42 percent on 3’s (10-24) and 62 percent at the line (18-29). Concordia also shot 53 percent from the field (36-68), and was 37 percent on 3’s (7-19) and 65 percent on free throws (20-31). Concordia shot 6-for-7 from the field in overtime.

Both teams finished with 37 rebounds. The Vikings committed just nine turnovers while Concordia had only six turnovers.

The Cobbers had five players score in double figures led by 27 points by Alderman. Austin Heins added 20 points.
