N.D. (NewsDakota.com)—-For the second time in 10 days the Carrington girls basketball defeated Medina-Pingree-Buchanon Thunder, 43-28 in Pingree. The Cardinals were paced by Haley Hewitt’s game high 16 points and Emerson Hoornaert’s 13. The Cards hounding defense held the Thunder to a season low 28 points and a 4 point fourth quarter to seal the victory. Leading 28-24 heading to the final 8 minutes, the Cards outscored the Thunder 15-4.
Carrington, playing without top scorer and senior leader Maara Nelson for the third straight game had an overall great defensive team effort. Abigail Jarrett scored 6 points, but it was her pressure defense that helped force M-P-B into 19 turnovers. Jill Endres also turned in a good night defensively, blocking 5 shots and helped contain M-P-B’s 6’2 Halle Uehran (4 points) and 6′ Taylor Sabinash (1 point) to a combined 5 points. Amanda Allen led the Thunder with 7 points and Megan Moser added 6 points.
The 4th ranked Cardinals improved to 8-0 on the year with the win, M-P-B dropped to 6-2 overall, both losses to Carrington.
Carrington will be back in action on January 3rd, hosting District 5 opponent Edgely-Kulm-Montpeiler and are hoping to have Nelson back in the lineup. The game with be aired on AM 1600 KDAK and www.newsdakota.com
