CITY (NewsDakota.com)- Jamestown High School came into Valley City Tuesday night and split a doubleheader with The Hi-Liners. A late push in the boy’s game allowed Valley City to hold on for a 74-68 win. In the girls’ game Jamestown never trailed in a decisive 68-37 win, their 1st of the year. VCHS returns to EDC action next Tuesday hosting West Fargo.

In a game that featured 7 ties Valley City was able to edge Jamestown 74-68. Teams went back and forth early with neither team leading by more than 4 points, the score at the intermission was 36-36. The Hi-Liners started the 2nd half scoring 7 straight points and when it started to look like they would began to pull away Jamestown battled back behind 12 points from John Horgan. With 6 minutes left The Jays tied the score and briefly held the lead.

Tied at 62 with 3:57 on the remaining Valley City took advantage of some late free throws and closed the game on a 12-6 scoring run to come away with win 74-68. Four Hi-Liners were in double figures lead by Nate Rodriguez with 21 points, Riley Miller scored 18, Levi Nix had 16 and Drew Oberlander 11.

Horgan finished the night with 19 to lead The Blue Jays. Beau Waldock added 11. Jamestown, now 0-4, travels to Legacy Thursday.

Jamestown came into Tuesday’s game shooting just 28% on the season but that figure didn’t show in their commanding 68-37 victory against Valley City. The Jays dropped 11 threes in the contest with 3 players hitting 2 or more.

Megan Gaffaney had 16 points to pace Jamestown, Genna Bruns scored 12 points and Megan Larson 9. For Valley City Regan Ingstad and Jadyn Dieterle both scored 6 points. Lexi Ondracek added 5.
