(NewsDakota.com)- The boys’ team celebrated their 1st win of the year while the girls suffered their 2nd loss of the season Tuesday in a doubleheader in Wahpeton. After a late charge from The Huskies, The Valley City boys held on for a 52-46 conference win. Wahpeton never trailed in the girls’ contest topping The Hi-Liners 71-48.
The VCHS boys play again Thursday in a non conference tilt against Kindred at The HAC. Tip off is at 7:30 pregame at 7:15 on KOVC with video at newsdakota.com , the girls are off until next Tuesday when they face The Jamestown Blue Jays.
BBB: VCHS 52 Wahpeton 46
The Valley City Boy’s Basketball team survived a rally from Wahpeton to earn their 1st win of the season 52-46. Teams traded points early on and after the 4th lead change The Hi-Liners went on top by 9. Behind 16 points from Josh Darwin The Huskies closed in on Valley City and with a bucket as the halftime buzzer sounded they pulled within 2 points 25-23 at intermission.
VCHS started the 2nd half with 7 quick points and led again by 9. Wahpeton’s rebounding kept them in the game and with 2:52 remaining in the contest the score was 44-42. The Hi-Liners went on an 8-4 run to finish out the game and used late free throws to maintain the lead; holding on for the victory.
Nate Rodriguez scored 17 for Valley City, Riley Miller added 14 and Levi Nix 8. Wahpeton’s Josh Darwin led all scorers with 25 points.
GBB: Wahpeton 71 VCHS 48
The Lady Huskies raced out to a 9 point advantage and never trailed in their 71-48 win over Valley City. Wahpeton was up 42-18 at halftime but was outscored 30-29 in the 2nd half. Taryn Dieterle led The Hi-Liners with 14 points. Courtney Lloyd had 7 and Jadyn Dieterle, Reagan Ingstad and Grace Scherr each picked up 6 points. Tylee Irwin scored 26 for The Huskies, teammate Rheaghn Gripentrog had 18 all coming from 3 pointers.
