ROCKFORD, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Both the Cardinals and Rockets kicked off their 2016-17 season on Monday night with a non-region match up. The Cardinals jumped out early scoring 26 points in the first quarter compared to 11 from New Rockford/Sheyenne, but the Cardinals would hold off a late charge by NRS to get the victory 63-60.
At the end of the third quarter, Carrington led 52-41. The Rockets would score 19 points in the fourth quarter compared to the Cardinals 11. Jack Schaefer had a big three pointer as did Teddy Allmaras and Wilson Howard scored eight points off the bench to help the fourth quarter spurt. Carrington’s Garrett Bickett hit some crucial free throws towards the end of the game to help keep the Cardinals in the lead. The Cardinals had three players in double figures, Junior Garrett Bickett had 18 points, followed by Senior Bryce Edland with 16 and Junior Kolton Vetter with 14. The Rockets were led by Senior Jack Schaefer with 27 points, including two 3-pointers.
