Nieswaag, 100, of Pettibone, ND, died peacefully early Friday morning, November 25, 2016 at Carrington Health Center, Carrington, ND.

Berton F. Nieswaag was born May 7, 1916 on a farm southwest of Pettibone, one of the four children of Fred and Rena (Vellanga) Nieswaag of Pettibone. He attended grade school in Weiser and graduated from Pettibone High School in 1935. Bert married Alona “Sis” Friese on June 23, 1942. They lived in Pettibone and Bert hauled livestock until 1954. He then began his milk hauling business that lasted from 1954 until 1986. He then continued to haul cattle to livestock rings for local ranches for several years.

Bert trained and raced horses for many years, which he loved doing. The highlight this year was his 100th birthday celebration, which was attended by a very large crowd of relatives and friends. Bert also enjoyed sitting and visiting with the young and old at Farmers’ Union.

Bert is survived by his son, Dennis (Phyllis) Nieswaag, Pettibone; two grandsons, Darcy Nieswaag, Jamestown and Darren (Stephanie) Nieswaag, Mandan; two grandchildren, Bria and McKenna, Jamestown; nieces, Sharon, Jan, Nancy, and Kay; and nephews, John and Jim.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Marie and Lois; and brother, Loren.

Funeral Service: 1:30pm, Monday, November 28, 2016 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Pettibone, with Pastor Joan Dekrey officiating.

Visitation: 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Sunday, November 27, 2016 at Williams Funeral Home, Jamestown.

Interment: Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery, Pettibone, ND.
