(NewsDakota.com)- The 2016-17 Blue Jay boys hockey season got off to a great start Tuesday night at Wilson Arena, as the Jays took down Grafton/Park River 6-2.

Junior Conner Fuchs had a monster game he got the Jays kick started with a goal just 3:16 into the game. Senior Levi Donegan-Wahl made it 2-0 with a tally late in the first.

Jamestown stung the Spoilers with a couple of quick goals to start the second as Junior Leo Halko and Senior Branden Sherfy each scored in the first three minutes of the period to hike the lead to 4-0. Halko added his second of the game midway through the period, and that put the Jays up 5-0 heading to the third.

Grafton/PR got back in the game with two goals in the first seven minutes of Period three, but an empty net goal by Junior Devin Hofmann with 90 seconds remaining sealed the deal.

Fuchs finished with five points with a goal and four assists. Junior goalie Andrew Schneider came up with 44 saves, including 19 in the third. The Spoilers out shot Jamestown 46-42.

After losing six consecutive season openers to Grafton/PR, head coach Matt Stockert was thrilled to start off the new season with a victory “This feels good. It was a good effort by the boys. We put pucks on net and the kids crashed the net all night.”

Jamestown will get into West Region play with their next contest on Saturday afternoon at Hazen-Beulah.
