(NewsDakota.com) The police chief in the city of Oakes has announced his intention to retire.
Marke Roberts informed the Oakes City Council in a special session Monday morning his desire to step away from a full-time role with the department, but would continue to work a 19 hour week to help with training and transitional purposes. Roberts was recently elected to a seat on the Dickey County Commission.
The news of Roberts’ resignation comes after officers Justin Prochnow, who served as the Oakes Public School District Resource Officer, and Matt O’Brien submitted their resignations last month. Both men said they resigned to pursue other career opportunities.
In a release, the City says interviews are being conducted to fill Prochnow’s and O’Brien’s positions. Once those roles are filled, the school district’s resource officer program will be reinstated and Corey Heim will step into the role as Chief for a probationary period.
