N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The first winter storm of 2016 is expected to be quick and leave some snow behind starting Thursday evening in North Dakota.
Meteorologist Adam Jones with the Bismarck National Weather Service reports that the mild and warmer temperatures the state has seen so far are expected to drop by the end of the week.
The latest forecast models show a storm bringing high winds, colder temperatures and snow is expected to affect a majority of Southeastern North Dakota, South Dakota and Minnesota. Jones says the storm is difficult to track at the moment, but one thing that can be certain is the cold that the storm will bring.
Jones says some locations could see upwards of 6 inches of snow with heavier amounts in the Southeast part of the state. He says the storm is expected late Thursday and will be out of the area by late Friday.
The Bismarck National Weather Service predicts temperatures to rise again beginning next Monday.
