N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Whether it was the Presidential race, picking the next Governor, or some of the widely-debated ballot measures, North Dakotans made their presence known on November 8th.
The North Dakota Secretary of State’s Office says a new record was set when it comes to the number of people who voted, but it appears that’s simply due to the rising population in the state.
North Dakota has 570,955 eligible voters and 348,886 ballots were cast on Tuesday, breaking the previous record set in the 2012 general election.
Although the number of people who voted is the highest ever, the voter turnout is similar to past presidential election years. About 61% of eligible voters cast a ballot this year, which is the same as the 2012 general election.
During the 2012 general election, there were 532,776 eligible voters and 325,862 of them cast ballots, which is also about 61%.
During the previous presidential election in 2008, 64% of North Dakotans voted; 321,133 of the 496,906 who were eligible cast ballots.
