N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown Choralaires have been given a chance to sing at one of the most prestigious concert venues in the world.
Some of the men’s group will be traveling in 2017 to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York City. Commissioned by Andrew Carnegie himself in 1891, the historic concert hall has been performed in by the likes of Richard Strauss, George Gershwin and Duke Ellington.
The Choralaires also have a history, going into their 62nd year as an ensemble. Director Pam Burkhardt stated that to have been asked to perform in Carnegie Hall is a big honor.
Burkhardt pointed out that the conversation took place in June and the group unanimously accepted the invitation.
Mark Sherfy is a member of the Choralaires.
The group will perform in concert on February 19th and will be performing a piece by Randall Thompson entitled “Testament of Freedom”. They will be holding numerous fundraiser to raise money for travel expenses. The first will be a potato bar on November 17th at the KC Hall in Jamestown. They will also be selling raffle tickets with 1st place going towards a trip for two to New York.
