“Sonny” Edgar Johnson, Jr. was born August 29, 1930, to Conrad, Sr. and Winnie (Baker) Johnson in Pillsbury, ND, where he also attended school.

He was united in marriage to Darlene Smith on August 25, 1948.  They farmed east of Hope, ND, later moving into Hope, then to Fargo, and finally to Valley City, ND where he began his lifelong work in meat processing, retiring as the meat manager for Leevers SuperValu Store.

Conrad entered the Sheyenne Care Center in April 2015, where he received excellent care up to his passing on November 1, 2016, surrounded by family.

He is survived by his wife, Darlene; sons, Gary (Janice) and Greg; daughters, Ruth (Bruce) Batsch, Rose (Mark) Hatcher, and Lyla Grieger; grandchildren, Shelby (Scott Petsch), Cody (Courtney) Johnson, Casey (Daniel) Triebold, Jodie (Erick) Nelson, Jennie (Brandon) Darby, Justin Hatcher, Nicole (Jeremy) Mensinger, and Brittany Grieger; great grandchildren, Tasha, Casyn, Cambryn, Konnor, Gavin, Devin, Morgan, Hunter, Hailey, Fisher, Wade, Zane, Desiree, Korbin, Milauna and Declan; sisters, Phyllis Erdman and Marlys (Bill) Jacobson; brothers-in-law, Ron Knight and Duane (Cheryl) Smith; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, two half-sisters, a half-brother, and five brothers-in-law.

A memorial service for Conrad will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at the Lerud Schuldt Funeral Home Chapel, Valley City.  Burial will be in Memory Gardens near Valley City.
