(NewsDakota.com) On the final night of the 2016 North Daktoa Class B District 5 volleyball tournament, the defending State Champions won the district, while three other teams advanced to the Class B Region III Tournament.
Region III Qualifier: #3 Oakes def. #5 Midkota 3-0 (25-12, 25-10, 25-16)–
For the second time this season, the Tornadoes swept the Mustangs, this time sending Midkota home for the year. Oakes had a total of 13 aces and 39 kills. Shelby Roney had eight aces and seven kills, with Nicole Schmitz registering 13 kills.
Midkota had four aces and 14 aces in the match. Mikayla Donohue had a team high six kills.
Region III Qualifier: #7 Barnes County North def. #4 Edgeley-Kulm 3-0 (25-15, 25-23, 25-20)
Hannah Wilson had 14 kills and 19 digs as BCN pulled off the upset. The Bison had a total of five players with double-digit digs.
Katie Entzi had 13 kills and digs in the loss, while Haley Olsen had 23 digs.
District 5 Championship: #2 Lamoure def. #1 Carrington 3-1 (18-25, 25-23, 25-14, 25-16)
After losing during the regular season and the first set decisively on Monday, the Loboes squeaked out a win in set number two, then kicked in the afterburners throughout the remainder of the match to clinch the district title.
Once again, LaMoure was lead by Anna Holen, who lead her squad with 30 kills and 30 digs. Carrington’s Maara Nelson had 15 kills in the loss to go along with a team high 35 digs.
The 2016 North Dakota Class B Region III Volleyball Tournament starts Monday, November 7 at Ellendale High School. Coverage of the entire tournament will be on TED-FM 98.3/102.7 and NewsDakota.com, with the matches featuring Oakes on KDDR-AM 1220/95.9 FM.
