(NewsDakota.com) The four quarterfinal matches during the opening day of the Class B District 5 volleyball tournament all resulted in three games to none sweeps on Thursday at LaMoure High School.

#1 Carrington def. #8 LMM 3-0 (25-5, 25-19, 25-10)

The number one seeded Cardinals had a fairly easy time against the eighth seeded team. Maara Nelson lead Carrington in kills and digs with 17 and 16 respectively; Nelson cleared past the 1,000 dig mark in her career during the contest.

LMM had a team high 14 digs from Kiara DeBock in the loss.

#4 Edgeley-Kulm def. #5 Midkota 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-18)

Katie Entzi had a total of 20 of the Rebels 33 kills in the sweep. Entzi and Haley Olson each registered 12 digs each to send E-K to a semifinal matchup against the Cardinals.

Midkota had three players with five kills each; Victoria Vollmer, Mikayla Donahue and Mariah Bopp. 

#2 LaMoure def. #7 Barnes County North 3-0 (25-10, 25-17. 25-17)

Anna Holen had an impressive 20 kills, three blocks and 17 kills to give the second seeded and hometown Loboes the victory. 

BCN as a team managed just eight kills, with Clara Weland picking up half of the total.

#3 Oakes def. #6 Ellendale 3-0 (25-17, 25-15, 25-22)

Shelby Roney and Nicole Schmitz had 15 and 13 kills as the Tornadoes moved onto the semifinals to face the Loboes. 

Josie Henningsen had a team high five kills and 12 assists in the defeat for the Cardinals. 

Friday’s play commences at 3 p.m. with loser-out play. Up first is LMM against Midkota, followed 25 minutes later with Barnes County North and Ellendale. The semifinals start at 6 p.m. with Carrington and Edgeley-Kulm followed by LaMoure and Oakes.
