Coit of Valley City died October 26th, 2016 at Mercy Hospital. A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 29th at the First Church of the Nazarene in Valley City at 10:30. Visitation will be one hour before the service.
Robert was born to Neal and Mabel (Anderson) Coit on October 31, 1941. He grew up near Englevale and graduated in 1959 from Verona High School. March 16, 1963, he married Sharon Long in Oakes.
Robert attend NDSU, graduating in 1968 with degrees in both Animal Science and Biochemistry. He continued studies at NDSU pursuing a Master’s Degree until 1970. Through the years he worked for Purina Feeds, Peavey, and Zip Feeds, eventually starting his own feed company, Coit Feeds.
You could often find him along the riverbank or the lakeshore fishing. He spent many hours hunting, fishing, gardening, and camping with his family. Robert enjoyed watching several sports, especially the NDSU Bison. He was also active for many years in local pool leagues and was a member of the Eagles Club.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Bill. He is survived by three children: Lance Coit (Teresa Beedle), Valley City, Heather (Tim) Schwehr, Sanborn, and Cassi (Tim) Brookins, West Fargo; eight grandchildren: Samantha Coit, Laine, Daniel, and Marly Schwehr, Carly and Cade Knutson, and Joe and Dan Brookins. He also leaves behind his companion Gertrude Fredirick.
