N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown Building, Planning & Zoning committee met in the regular session on Tuesday, October 25th.
During the meeting, city members talked about a request from Lurue Weber to move a mobile home into the city and place it at 1324 14th Avenue Southwest, which was approved. Later, a consideration to approve the plat of the Corell Addition was discussed.
Councilwoman Pam Phillips stated that she was concerned with the easements and layout of the addition, which was approved by the planning commission and sent forth for approval from the city council.
Mayor Katie Andersen pointed out that the committee couldn’t deny a plat simply because they don’t like the layout of it.
Councilwoman Phillips responded by saying she didn’t want to see this come back and hurt the city.
The committee was then informed that the plat would be within city limits, but it would be up to them to manage water and infrastructure, due to it being a private agreement. The committee approved.
A traffic study which was sent forward from the planning commission was later discussed, with Mayor Andersen pointing out some concerns.
Planning Commissioner Paulette Ritter stated that they were trying to get a traffic study ordinance passed because of several dead-end roadways in the community.
The ordinance would make it so a new business or area would need to pay for a traffic study and if improvements were called for, they would also pay for those. The ordinance had come before the council once and was denied. Councilwoman Phillips said she believed the new ordinance had reworked the wording to make it more feasible.
Mayor Andersen rebutted.
The ordinance was approved with Mayor Andersen voting in opposition and will move on to the November regular meeting.
The final large item of discussion was an ordinance brought forth by Councilman Dan Buchanan regarding dilapidated homes.
City Beautification member Paulette Ritter came forth asking if there was anything included in the ordinance regarding ways to enforce it.
City Administrator Jeff Fuchs stated that there was a way the city could enforce it, but it was a long and costly process.
The ordinance will be enforced by the Jamestown Police Department, who will notify a city landowner if they have a building or structure that does not appear structurally sound. Later steps will be taken to ensure the structure is taken care of. The First Reading of the ordinance was approved.
