(NewsDakota.com)—–The Carrington Cardinals 2016 football season came to an end Saturday afternoon in a wild, high scoring contest, losing to second ranked Langdon-Munich (L-M) 54-39 in the opening round of the class A 11-man playoffs. The two teams combined for 953 yards of offense led by L-M with 582 yards. Carrington finished with 371 yards which doesn’t include almost 200 additional kickoff return yards including a 76 yard TD from Braxton Hewitt late in the second quarter. The story of this game belonged to L-M starting quarterback Jacob Delvo. Delvo threw for 499 yards, 6 TD passes, no interceptions, and overall completed 24-34 attempts. Delvo’s favorite receiver Anfernee Economy hauled in 13 catches good for 232 yards and 2 TD’S. If that wasn’t enough for Economy, he added a TD pass of his own, connecting with Braden Harder on a 42 yard TD strike in the second quarter. Harder finished the day with 4 catches for 90 yards and 1 TD. Chase Peebles hauled in 5 catches for 125 yards and 2 TD’S and Connor Tetrault had 84 yards on 3 catches with a TD. Tetrault also had a 5 yard TD run that put the game seemingly out of reach  for Carrington with 5:55 to go, giving L-M a 54-32 lead. The kickoff following this score had Braxton Hewitt return his second TD of the game for a 70yard score but was called back on a penalty. With all the wind out of the sails, or appeared to be, Carrington responded on the first play from scrimmage with a 74 yard TD pass from Hayden Schmitz to Kaden Wolsky cutting the lead to 54-39. Carrington failedto recover an onside kick attempt after the TD and L-M would run out the clock and advance to the second round of the playoffs.

Carrington had some great stats also, gaining 222 yards rushing on 42 attempts (5.3 average). Drew Page led the way with 101 yards and  2 TD’s. Page scored on a 38 yard run late in the second quarter and a 6 yarder earlier in the 2nd . Wolsky racked up 91 rushing yards on 17 carries including a 10 yard score on the opening drive of the game. The two teams combined for 7 second quarter TD’S and L-M led 34-26 at halftime.

Trey Rosenau had a 1 carry for 16 yards for Carrington and Hewitt added 1 carry for 11 yards. Hayden Schmitz finished the day connecting on 4 of 6 passes for 149 yards and 2 TD’S. Along with Wolsky’s 1 TD reception for 74 yards, Jayden Shipman had 2 catches for 45 yards including a 15 yard TD. Rosenau added 1 catch for 30 yards. Carrington finishes their season at 4-5 overall and L-M improved to 8-1 overall and with play Northern Cass on Saturday in the second round of the class A 11-man playoffs.
