(NewsDakota.com) – The University of Jamestown football has dominated the all-time series with Mayville State and Saturday they added to it. The Jimmies have now won 21-straight and are 65-20-3 all-time against the Comets, coming off a 20-13 win on Saturday.
Jamestown jumped out to a 9-0 lead following a muffed punt that was recovered for a safety and a Keldrick Sullivan short touchdown run on the ensuing drive. It was Sullivan’s 10th of the year, no Jimmie has rushed for 10 touchdowns in at least the past 12 seasons.
The Comets came back to take the lead at 13-9 with scoring plays in the second and third quarter. Their first touchdown came when Dantrel Horne hauled in a 64-yard touchdown pass from Andrew Blake.
Grant Linde was 1-4 on his field goal tries, but knocked down his third attempt to pull the Jimmies within one at 13-12. In the fourth quarter, the Jimmie offense finally struck for a big play when Dylan Klatt hit Jake Amundson for 77-yards down to the one. Sullivan converted the short run on the next play. Klatt added a two-point run to expand the lead to 20-13.
Blake threw two costly interceptions in the final three minutes while trying to drive down for the tying score. Both picks were thrown inside the Jamestown 25-yard line.
Jamestown moves to 2-6 on the year and will host Valley City State on Saturday. The Vikings are coming in on a three-game winning streak. Kick-off at Taylor Stadium is scheduled for 1pm.
