(NewsDakota.com) – The University of Jamestown men’s basketball team is mourning the loss of a former player. Cedric D. Smith passed away unexpectedly Thursday afternoon at the Jamestown Regional Medical Center.
Smith, from Gary, Indiana, played his final college basketball season in Jamestown during the 2014-15 season. He finished as the team leader in rebounds and was named All-NSAA second team following the Jimmies conference championship season.
Smith also spent one season as a student assistant for head coach Danny Neville in 2015-16. He was the first member of this family to graduate college when he walked in the spring.
The university held a prayer service last night at the Voorhees Chapel that was attended by many students, athletes and coaches.
He was 23.
