CITY, ND – (NewsDakota.com) Thinking of dropping out of school? After you hear this story you may think twice before making a decision you may regret later in life.

Wyatt Hatcher of Valley City was seriously contemplating dropping out of school at the end of his sophomore year until he found a passion. The 19 year-old now has an excellent shot at becoming a mechanic for a NASCAR racing team in the near future.

Hatcher found his passion thanks to the teachers and staff members at the Sheyenne Valley Area Career & Technology Center in Valley City.

Hatcher said the school changed his outlook on life after he started to take classes and never missed a day of school once his interest was fueled in the classroom.

Hatcher along with his mother, Laurie Hatcher, one of his teacher’s Jim McFadgen and director Jeff Bopp of the Sheyenne Valley Area Career & Technology Center talked about this heart warming story with NewsDakota.com reporter Steve Urness.

Hatcher has earned more than $50,000 in scholarships for his schooling and will pursue a career as a mechanic for a NASCAR racing team.
