ND (Newsdakota.com)- Trailing 26-12 with 4:44 left in the 4th quarter The Beulah Miners scored 15 unanswered points to defeat Valley City 27-26 knocking The Hi-Liners out of playoff contention.
After touchdowns from Anthony Capistran and Nate Rodriguez Valley City ended the opening quarter up 14-0. Beulah trimmed the score to 14-6 when Reece Hoherz connected with Mason Dolbec for a 10 yard score. Capistran added another touchdown for The Hi-Liners to close out the 1st half with a 20-6 advantage.
Valley City pushed their lead to 26-6 in the 3rd frame. Drew Oberlander’s 1st interception of the season set up a scoring drive topped off by a 5 yard touchdown run by Juan Gille. With 11 seconds remaining in the quarter Mikey Morris scored for Beulah cutting into Valley’s lead 26-12.
Hoherz found Aaron Vallejo in the end zone from 39 yards out to start the Miner’s 4th quarter rally.Morris ran in the 2 point conversion. After a blocked Valley City punt Beulah took over on The Hi-Liner’s 30. A penalty from the sideline moved The Miners up 15 yards and 2 plays later Dolbeck scored for the 2nd time and Morris hit the PAT. VCHS’s final drive ended with a interception allowing Beulah to run out the game’s final seconds.
Valley City gathered 341 yards of offense with Gille rushing for 139.Levi Nix was 4 of 11 collecting 50 yards with 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. Beulah had 230 yards,Hoherz had 4 completions with 99 yards. He was also the lead rusher with 67 yards.
The Hi-Liners drop to 5-3 and 3-3 in the region moving into 5th place in the west. Beulah is 7-1 and 5-1 in the west. Valley City plays their final game of the year Saturday against undefeated Bismarck St.Mary’s.
