(NewsDakota.com)—–The Carrington girls volleyball team went 6-0 on Saturday and defeated Medina-Pingree-Buchanon (MPB) in the championship match of the 2016 Carrington Volleyball Tournament 2-0 (27-26, 25-12) in a battle of the final unbeaten teams in class B volleyball. MPB entered the title match 22-0, while Carrington entered 25-0. Carrington will play MPB again on October 24th at Pingree in the final regular season match of the year.

Carrington picked up 5 wins on Saturday prior to the much anticipated title match with MPB. The Cards defeated Harvey-WC 2-0 (25-6, 25-16), Hillsboro-CV 2-0 (25-12, 25-10), Rugby 2-0 (25-16, 25-17), Edgely-Kulm in the quarterfinals 2-0 (25-23, 25-14), Bishop Ryan in the semifinals 2-0 (25-15, 25-11), before capturing the title over MPB. Maara Nelson led Carrington with 62 kills on the day including a match high 13 in the title game. Emerson Hoornaert had 28 kills on the day and Carmen Pederson added 24 kills during the tourney. Pederson added 7 stuff blocks (21 total)to lead the Cards  on Saturday. Kaedyn Mehring added 6.5 blocks and Gracie Page added 4. Carrington added 43 aces on the day led by Emma Rost with 9, Abigail Jarrett and Amber Pierce 8, and 6 each for Hoornaert, Pederson, and Nelson. Carrington finished the day connecting on 279 0f 295 service attempts, good for 95 percent. The Cards improved to 26-0 on the year and will trvavel to Oakes on Tuesday for a big District 5 matchup with the Tornadoes. If Carrington wins they would earn the number 1 seed in the upcoming district tourney in Lamoure. If Oakes wins, there could be a potential 3 way tie for first place with Lamoure, Carrington, and Oakes. The match on Tuesday will be aired on AM 1600 KDAK, AM 1220 KDDR, and www.newsdakota.com
