City,ND (VCSUvikings.com0- The Valley City State volleyball team pushed Jamestown to the limit in two games Friday night in Valley City, but in the end the No. 19-ranked Jimmies scored a 3-0 victory: 25-18, 25-23, 25-23.

Madison Wendel recorded a game-high 10 kills for Jamestown and the Jimmies hit .354 in the match, improving their record to 14-6 overall and 6-1 in conference play.

Valley City State drops to 7-13 overall and 3-4 in the North Star Athletic Association.

VCSU started quick with an 8-5 lead in game one, but the Jimmies scored nine of the next 12 points to take control as they scored a 25-18 win to open the math.

The Vikings again started fast in game two, building an 8-4 lead. VCSU did not trail in game two until the final points. After Jamestown scored two quick points to tie it at 20-20,Clarissa Olson scored a quick kill and Jamestown followed with an error to put the Vikings up 22-20. The Jimmies responded with three straight points, including back-to-back aces by Nicole Warren that put Jamestown up 23-22. Megan Johnson tied it back at 23-23 with a kill, but the Jimmies closed out the game with back-to-back kills by Morgan Mensch and Heather Bachman for a 2-0 lead.

The Jimmies took control early in game three and led by as many as seven points – 16-9 – before the Vikings stormed back to make it interesting. Trailing 19-15, VCSU scored four straight points to tie the game at 19-19. The teams traded points down the stretch, tying at 20-20 and 21-21. The Jimmies scored four of the last six points, ending the match with kills by Haley Glasoe and Morgan Hensch.

Taylor Sharp scored a team-high eight kills for the Vikings, while Clarissa Olson added seven and both Autumn Johnson and Nicolette Bloomer had five.Meagan Schwarzrock led VCSU with 15 assists and Jaycee George had seven digs. Johnson recorded a pair of blocks.

Jamestown outhit VCSU in the match, .354 to .165. The Jimmies had four service aces and VCSU had three. Jamestown scored seven blocks compared to three for VCSU.

Behind Wendel’s 10 kills, Mensch added eight for the Jimmies. Aubrey Beaumont tallied 17 assists, and Nicole Warren had two aces and 13 digs. Kaitlin Anderson and Glasoe each had four block assists.

Up next: VCSU hosts Dickinson State on Saturday at 3 p.m. The Jimmies play at Mayville State on Saturday at 7 p.m.
