City, ND (Newsdakota.com)- A 24 point 3rd quarter propelled Valley City to a 60-14 win over Central Dakota in their final home game of 2016. The Hi-Liners scored 8 touchdowns with 2 coming from the defense. The program’s 18 seniors were honored before the contest with a pregame ceremony.
After a long opening drive by Central Dakota, The Hi-Liner took over on their 20 and used a 5 play scoring drive to grab a 6-0 lead. Eli Allen had an 18 yard carry for his 1st of 3 touchdowns. Allen would score once more before the quarter’s end and get the 2 point conversion to make it 14-0.
The Titans cut Valley City’s lead in half 14-7 with Lawton Allen’s touchdown in the 2nd quarter. Central Dakota got the PAT. The Hi-Liner’s defense made a stand late in the 4th quarter ,when Central Dakota had 1st and goal on their 9.Drew Jacobson and Eli Allen had big plays to force a turnover on downs. One second remained in the 1st half as Levi Nix connected with Justin Manson for a 50 yard TD. Cole McGough ran in the 2 point conversion and Valley City went in to the locker room up 22-7.
Juan Gille started the offensive outpouring in the 3rd quarter with 16 and 4 yard scoring runs. Eli Allen stripped the ball out of the hands of Central Dakota quarter back David Fletcher and returned it 50 yards for his final score of the night. In the 4th quarter Dalon Allen returned a fumble for a 3 yard touchdown and Mitchel Taylor scored his 1st TD of the season. Braden Tripp had the only 2nd half score for Central Dakota.
Valley City finished with 390 yards of total offense. Eli Allen rushed for 149 yards with Gille added 107. Nix was 2 for 6 with 54 yards. Central Dakota had 238 yards; Braden Tripp rushed for 88 yards. David Fletcher was 8 for 13 with 93 yards. Evan Trostad caught 2 passes for 48 yards.
Valley City is now 5-2, they travel to Beulah next week. Central Dakota is winless at 0-7,they will host St.Mary’s.
