5 October 2016, Mary Catherine (Sauer) Wagner, age 97, was reunited with the love of her life, Bernie.  With her loved ones in her heart, she passed away peacefully.

Mary was born in Valley City, ND, March 27, 1919 to Jacob & Regina Sauer.  She was the third of five children, all of whom have passed before her.  After attending school in Sanborn, ND, Mary and Bernie were united in marriage January 8, 1945.  Mary lovingly kept the home fires burning while Bernie was away serving his country in the US Army.  They made their home in Sanborn, ND then later in Valley City, ND.  Mary’s current residence was Maryhill Manor, Enderlin, ND.

Mary was very active in many organizations until she entered the Nursing Home.  These
organizations included the American Legion Auxillary, VFW Auxillary, DAV Auxillary, Eagles Auxillary, and Christian Mothers.  Mary was very proud of Bernie’s service in the military and recognized his service by her involvement in Americanism projects with these organizations.  Mary always had an American flag in the trunk of her car and if she passed by a flagpole with a tattered flag she would make Bernie stop and Mary would present a new flag to replace the old one.

Today, Mary’s legacy includes 2 children, 3 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.  She loved each one and while she still had her memory she never forgot a birthday or anniversary.  Waiting for Mary in Heaven is her one true love, Bernie and daughter Patricia Drong.  Also there to greet her are her Mother and Father and sisters, Charlotte, Cletus, and Lucille, and brother Joe.

Sadly saying farewell is her son Chuck and his wife JoAl, Maricopa, AZ; son in law Jim Drong, Sanborn, ND; granddaughter Melissa Wagner and her significant other Peter Herem, Plymouth, MN; grandson Mike Drong, his wife Lisa and their children McRay, Connor and Elias Drong, St. Cloud, MN; and granddaughter Jerica Reha, her husband Jeff and their children Tenley, Aubrey and Grayson Reha, Providence, RI.

Rosary and visitation will be at Sacred Heart Church, Sanborn, ND at 7:00PM on Monday, October 10, 2016.  Funeral mass will be held at Sacred Heart Church in Sanborn on Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at 10:30AM.  Burial to follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Sunborn.
