CITY, ND – (NewsDakota.com) A plan to place a School Resource Officer back in the Valley City School District may have taken a step forward but nothing has been finalized.

Police Chief Fred Thompson told the city commission that an agreement between the city and the school district is still being workout. He said if both entities approve, a school resource officer could be back on the job in 2017.

Valley City Schools Superintendent Josh Johnson said the school board has not officially approved this position. He added, “We are still in the process of seeking input from our staff and asking parents for their feedback on the possibility of adding this position into the school district.”

The cost share ratio between the city and the school district has never been released.

The school district had a school resource officer a few years ago until funding from a grant and other entities was cut.
