N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown City Council unanimously approved their 2017 budget following an open hearing Monday evening.

During the public hearing, resident Dianne Satrom asked about the property tax increase in the budget. She asked why it seemed to continue to climb with no end in sight.

Mayor Katie Andersen stated that the city property tax increase would be 3.54%, which is about a $10.50 increase on a $100,000 home.

Executive Director of the Jamestown Chamber of Commerce Becky Thatcher-Keller pointed out that there are a number of non-profit organizations that are not taxed within the community.

She also pointed out that the city will likely be joined by Stutsman County and the Jamestown Public Schools in tax increases.

Near the end of the hearing, Mayor Andersen reported on a current letter that was being put together that would provide more transparency when it came to budget discussions.

The council unanimously approved the budget for the 2017 year.
