N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown City Council held their regular monthly meeting on Monday, October 3rd.
Several consent agenda items were approved including payroll deduction for enrollment in the Professional Law Enforcement Association “Legal Defense Plan Coverage”, the Central Valley Health District’s promote healthy walking signage, and beginning contract negotiations with Renaissance Recycling LLC. for curbside recycling.
During the resolutions portion of the meeting, the resolution to award the bid to Ryan Development Inc. for the 5th Street northeast Sanitary Sewer, Storm Sewer and Water Improvements was discussed. Councilmember Dan Buchanan said the tabulations appeared to keep rising.
Travis Dillman with Interstate Engineering stated that the bid of $466,524.25 was quite lower than they had estimated for the project.
The bid was approved unanimously.
Later in the meeting, the renewal of the Jamestown Tourism Agreement and the Jamestown Tourism Public Site lease was approved. The Council also held first readings considering updates to current law to coincide with state law.
During the hearing from the audience section of the meeting, Janelle Kurtzman brought forth concerns about a fire hydrant recently installed on her property.
Kurtzman pointed out that the hydrant would overhang the driveway, causing issues once the pavement for the driveway was laid. Water Department Superintendent Steve Suko said that they could adjust the head of the hydrant to alleviate any problems.
Jamestown Fire Chief Jim Reuther did not recommend adjusting the head, pointing out that they had the hydrants installed that way for easier access in the event of a fire.
The council took no action on the request.
Brian Hanson of Budget Autos also used the hearing from the audience to address his concerns with the no parking ordinance placed in front of his business. He pointed out that he had been unable to attend recent meetings concerning the parking issues near his business. He wanted the council to revisit the issue and reconsider.
The council will need someone who approved the ordinance to reconsider their vote in order for the ordinance to be reversed.
