LEA,MN (VCSUVIKINGS.COM)-The Valley City State men are in second place and the women are in fifth after round one of the North Star Athletic Association Fall Golf Championships.
VCSU’s men shot a 314 total and two Vikings are in the Top 5 following the first 18 holes of the NSAA Fall Championships at Wedgwood Cove Golf Course in Albert Lea, Minn. The second and final round is Tuesday. Results from the 36-hole fall tournament will be combined with 36 holes in the spring to determine the top teams and individuals in the NSAA.
The Viking men are just six shots back of leader Bellevue University, which finished with a 308 on Monday. VCSU’s 314 is three shots better than University of Jamestown and eight shots ahead of Viterbo University.
Viking junior Kyle Wiebe shot a 2-over round of 74 on Monday and is tied for first individually with Bellevue’s Diego Gudino. VCSU’s Tyler Baukol carded a 78 in the first round is is tied for fourth place.
Cameron Rall (12th, 80), Jared Lentz (16th, 82) and Jeremie Pasitney (21st, 85) round out the VCSU men’s team.
The Viking women are in fifth place among seven teams after round one. Valley City State shot a 403 in the first round. Bellevue University leads the women’s tournament with a 335 total after day one.
Valley City State’s Nicole Heinitz is in 12th place individually after shooting 89 on day one.
Haley Christofferson (22nd, 100), Mikayla Smith (23rd, 101), Megan McNamee (28th, 113) and Hannah Gress (30th, 126) round out the VCSU women’s round one score.
