N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – New Jamestown High School Principal Adam Gehlhar has wasted no time working towards making a difference inside the school district.

During the Local and Regional Issues Committee Meeting Wednesday, Principal Gehlhar gave an introduction of numerous programs, including STEM and Capstone, which he would like to implement in the school system.

Gehlhar stated that STEM, which stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math, is often misconstrued to focus on certain job areas. He pointed out that it is actually geared towards preparing students for jobs of the future.

Currently, Gehlhar is working with the district and their current strategic plan to help implement STEM and align his goals with the districts. Gehlhar said one of the things he would like to do is get involvement from local businesses and retirees to give students real-life experiences.

Gehlhar also made mention of externships, which would take teachers, who have spent a majority of their lives in the classrooms, and put them in a different job over the summer to give them an idea of what the workforce is looking for out of graduates and students.
