CITY, ND – (NewsDakota.com) Once again the vote is too close to call following a special election on Tuesday that asked voters to create a centralized school for the Maple Valley School District.
Superintendent Brian Wolf said absentee ballots will once again determine whether the vote passes or fails. He said the canvassing of all the ballots will be held on Monday, September 26th to determine the final outcome of the vote.
The referendum asked patrons to support a $14.3 million dollar school bond issue that would shut-down two schools in the district and pay for an addition to the existing structure in Tower City to centralize the Maple Valley School District into one building.
In April of 2015, voters narrowly defeated a $10.3 million the school bond issue. Back then the measure was two votes shy of passing with 59.60 percent in favor. Under state law, 60 percent or more is needed to pass a school bond issue.
