N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Opening Convocation/Young Alumni Awards ceremony at UJ was held on Thursday, September 8th at 11:00 a.m. in DeNault Auditorium.
This year there were three Young Alumni Award recipients who will received medallions along with presenting their mentors with medallions.
Anthony Amoroso (’02) with mentor Michael McIntyre
Anthony Amoroso is a teacher at Shady Hill Elementary School, Cambridge, Mass. He was previously a wilderness instructor at Telluride Academy in Colorado. He earned his master’s degree in education at the Bankstreet College of Education in New York City and holds a degree in Fine Arts (Theatre) from the University of Jamestown.
Mr. Amoroso received the Jimmie Zanni Award for excellence in theatre and was a finalist at the Bend Film Festival. He is a member of Chorus pro Musica, a Boston-based chorus known as one of the great choruses of New England, and he has also served as a board member of the ensemble and as its Community Reach Out and Sing coordinator.
Anthony is E.S.L. certified as a sheltered English instructor. His community service ranges from coaching flag football to volunteering for NYC Cares to public library read alouds. His hobbies include camping, traveling, sports, and theatre.
Elisha (Jones) Anderson ’04 with mentor Teree Rittenbach
Dr. Elisha Anderson is a family nurse practitioner for Essentia Health, Wahpeton, N.D., specializing in internal medicine. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Jamestown and a Doctor of Nursing Practice from North Dakota State University, where she was a member of Phi Kapa Phi and Sigma Theta Tau National Honor Societies.
Dr. Anderson has practiced at Essentia in Wahpeton since September of 2014 and previously was a family nurse practitioner in Lisbon, N.D.
She received the 2015 American Association of Nurse Practitioners State Award of Excellence and the 2013 5-Star Service Award Winner for Quality Patient Care. Her professional memberships include the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and the North Dakota Nurse Practitioner Association.
She is the founder and director of the Cowboys for a Cure nonprofit organization, volunteers for the Dorothy Day House, and serves as a religious education teacher and music director for St. Arnold’s Catholic Church.
Elisha and her husband, Corey, have four children, Jaden, Layton, Lane, and Mila. Her hobbies include horseback riding, gardening, running, photography, and piano.
Andrew Klose ’09 with mentor Ashish Patel
Dr. Andrew Klose is an assistant professor of chemistry at Augustana University, Sioux Falls, S.D. He earned bachelor’s degrees in chemistry and math from the University of Jamestown and received his Ph.D. in nuclear chemistry at Michigan State University where he was a graduate research fellow in the Department of Chemistry and at the National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory.
Before joining the faculty at Augustana, Dr. Klose was a postdoctoral research fellow in the Time and Frequency Division at the National Institute of Standards and Technology, Boulder, Colo. He was a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow and a National Research Council Postdoctoral Fellow.
At the University of Jamestown, Andrew was a Wilson Scholar, a College Fellow in chemistry and math, and played football for the Jimmies.
He is active in varied science outreach activities for K-12 students including judging science fairs, supervising Science Olympiad events and conducting science demonstrations in schools. He is also active in his church as a Sunday School teacher and percussionist.
Andrew and his wife, Kristen (Hesby), also a member of the Class of 2009, have two daughters, Brittany and Erika.
