N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Two separate Jamestown committees met during regular session on Tuesday, September 20th.
The first meeting focused on Finance & Legal business. The committee made the recommendation to approve the South Central Dakota Regional Council request for 2017 dues. They also held a first reading of a new City Code pertaining to sales of alcoholic beverages prohibited on certain days.
During the Building, Planning & Zoning Committee meeting, the committee recommended approval of a Land Use Plan in the Fairview First Subdivision. They also approved a first reading of a new ordinance changing several zones in the community.
During the Civic Center and Promotion Committee meeting, the North Dakota Roughrider Association contract with the Jamestown Civic Center. In August, Civic Center Manager Pam Fosse stated that the city and Civic Center lost a total of $17,000 hosting the event in 2015.
Greg Carlson with the Association Board stated during the September meeting that the Association is a non-profit. He also disputed that the city and Civic Center lost $17,000, stating that the event showed profit. He also pointed out the economic impact of the event.
It was suggested that a contract revision should be discussed for possible changes and rental of the Civic Center. No decision was made.
In the Fire & Police Committee meeting, a request was heard by Police Chief Scott Edinger on allowing payroll deduction for enrollment in the Professional Law Enforcement Association “Legal Defense Plan Coverage.” The committee recommended approval.
The Public Works Committee wrapped up the afternoon session. An engineering update was given on the Water Main Replacement Construction Project. A detention pond for Jamestown properties on 5th Street Northeast was reported on as well as a potentially new recreation rink in Southeast Jamestown. Recommendations will likely come before next month’s committee meeting.
