Coach’s Comments
After today, I have more questions than answers when it comes to playing in the 3-2 format. Who will be our player at #3 singles? In doubles, who can play at a high, consistent level? We play some great points and games, but can we put a whole match together? Do we put out a line-up to try for 3 wins and put our top players in those spots or do we try to spread out the pressure and make a line-up for a chance at winning 4 matches? We have been racking our brains to figure out how to combat any line-up way may see in the post-season.
We came out physically and mentally slow. A long drive coupled with it being in the morning could have been a factor. As regionals happens in Grand Forks and matches are in the morning, we need to figure out what works for us to begin matches raring to go no matter the time or location.
Collin and Zach are starting to go and get the ball in doubles. Trevor and Hale had a very good match against Century and have a few areas to improve. We will be working hard with those four this week in doubles.
Austin Rogelstad and Jack Ingstad played good matches against the WDA’s #1 team. Jack lost a tough first set 7-5 and Austin pulled out his match in a super tie-breaker. Austin played every point to win, moved his feet, used strategy and believed. It was by far the best played match of the day by a Hi-Liner and also the best match of Austin’s career. Great job!
Hunter, Riley, and Liam – our core of juniors – need to step up and lead this team this next week through tough competition, practice, and in preparation for the play-in match that will happen at home on Monday the 26th.
