Coach’s Comments
We battled today and put into effect yesterday’s practice of winning between points by preparing for the next point by being mentally and physically ready. Davies was favored, especially with out #3 player out sick, and we stayed with them stroke for stroke. It was by far the best match we played as a team.
Hunter and Riley beat a very good team in 3 sets to help set them up for a better seed at the individual tournament. They took over the net, wanted the ball, and then put the ball away. Their aggressiveness won them the match. We need to take what they harnessed and get all of our players to play doubles like these two were playing today!
Liam and Trevor played some good tennis together at #2, but their inexperience in doubles was the downfall. We hit too many balls back to the baseline player from the net and lacked touch and quickness at the net. How do you get better at those things? You play more doubles matches. This was Liam’s 2nd varsity doubles match of the year and Trevor’s 3rd. They are improving each time out and will learn from this one as well.
Zach played a steady singles match against a volatile player. He kept his cool and stayed consistent which lead to a victory. Austin played a very good match at #6 singles, but lost 6-4, 6-4. He is moving more, following through, and making good shot selections.
