ND (Newsdakota.com)- The Blue Hawks posted 452 yards of offense in their 1st meeting of the season against Valley City State University; picking up a 38-13 win. The Viking scored the 1st points of the game with a Jacob Duilio touchdown; the extra point attempt was blocked leaving VCSU with a 6-0 lead. DSU responded with 17 points to close out the 1st half. The Blue Hawks sacked Kurtis Walls 4 times in the 1st half and held the offense to -10 yards rushing. They broke the game open in the first 2 minutes of the 2nd half scoring back to back touchdowns. VCSU wouldn’t score again until with 4:03 remaining in the 3rd quarter Kurtis Walls connected with Jake Peterson for a 14 yard score.
The Vikings rushed for 102 yards and added 205 more passing for 307 in the game. Walls completed 20 passes for 205 yards with a touchdown and 2 interceptions. Colby Lum had 3 receptions for 80 yards. Duilio gained 101 yards with 27 carries. Nicholas McBeain recorded a game high 19 tackles with fumble recoveries. AJ Potter added 10 tackles and Andre Peppers 8.
DSU quarterback Kaler Ray passed 219 yards with 2 touchdowns. Trey Boone rushed for 74 yards and scored twice, Jed Fike had 72 yards and score.
