N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – State Superintendent Kirsten Baesler wants North Dakota young people to apply to join her Student Cabinet.

The Student Cabinet provides Baesler with their ideas and opinions about how to improve education in North Dakota. Baesler first started the group last year.

Private and public school students enrolled in grades three through 12 may apply, as well as students in their first year of college. Baesler says even very young students are eligible to join the Cabinet.

The application deadline is Friday, September 23, 2016. Superintendent Baesler hopes to name her cabinet appointments by September 30th.

Baesler says she’s looking for all types of student applicants – including those who haven’t had a good experience in school.

Baesler says student cabinet members have provided valuable advice and prompted some changes in state policy. She says in North Dakota education, it is important for the student’s voice to be heard.
