(NEWSDAKOTA.COM)-The Valley City State University golf teams opened the 2016-17 season with a two-day tournament in Bismarck on Sunday and Monday.
The Viking men shot a two-day total of 645, placing fourth out of seven teams at the Bismarck State College Mystics Golf Invite. VCSU’s women recorded a two-day score of 787, placing third out of three women’s teams. The tournament was played at Prairie West Golf Course.
Haley Christofferson had the top individual finish for VCSU, placing fourth overall in the women’s division with a 184 two-day total (88-96). Nicole Heinitz took seventh with a 190 (90-100). Hannah Gress placed 10th (103-101) and Mikayla Smith rounded out VCSU’s women with a 12th place finish (108-101).
The Viking women had a total of 787. Bismarck State won the women’s race with a 749, while Dickinson was second at 754.
On the men’s side, the Vikings shot a 324 on Sunday and a 321 on Monday for a total of 645. University of Jamestown took first with a 606.
Kyle Wiebe was the top Viking, shooting a 158 (78-80) to finish 9th. Jared Lentz added a Top 10 after tying for 10th with a 159 total (80-79).
Jeremie Pasitney (82-81, 17th), Tyler Baukol (84-81, 23rd) and Collin Hoss (88-87, 29th) rounded out the Viking men’s scores.
Valley City State will play the one-day Jimmie Early Bird tournament on Wednesday, Aug. 31, at the Jamestown Country Club.
