Coaches Comments

It was a long day on the tennis courts.  With three three-setters, the total match time came out to 4 hours and 22 minutes.

Even though the score was 9-0, three of those matches went three sets and Liam had another match with a close set of 7-5.  We pulled out four tight matches showing the character and resiliency of our team.

Hunter with Riley and Zach with Collin had their best doubles matches to date, moving well and putting balls away at the net.

Hale and Josh had their ups and downs, but pulled out a 2.5hr match where they were up a set and 5-1 in the second before losing the second in a tiebreaker.  In the third, they started off strong at 3-0, then lost the next four games, before finishing the match off 6-4.  Congratulations on your first varsity victory!

Jack Ingstad had his first varsity victory as well at #6 singles.  I can’t write much about it because when I watched, he was losing points and games and when I stayed away he was winning.  Probably a little superstitious, but I left well enough alone and he finished strong for his first victory.

Collin found his stride in singles, mastering his topspin stroke along with mixing in other strokes as well.  He looked very good and he finished off his strokes and his points.  Great job Collin.

As light became an issue, Zach’s match needed to be shortened to a third set super-tiebreaker instead of playing out the whole set.  Zach finally hit his stride in the super-tiebreaker.  Tied at 3s, he hit through his strokes and followed through.  He won the next 7 of 8 points to put away the match.

Hunter won his first match of the year at #1 singles which winning at #1 is an accomplishment.  Riley now has two victories in a row at number two.  Congrats.

Next match is at West Fargo on Thursday at 4pm.
