N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Carrington City Fire Department had a busy evening at the scrap yard Tuesday night.

Carrington Fire Chief Ken Wangen reports that a large pile of scrapped cars were ignited after the owner had a small spark fly from his blade as he was cutting up scrap metal.

“The owner was cutting scrap and it sparked a small blaze that quickly got away from him,” Chief Wangen reported.

New Rockford and Jamestown Rural Fire Departments sent tankers and men to help defend a house and barn on the property.

“We also had water trucks from Rosenau’s and Carr’s to supplement the tankers. Also, add that the Nursing Home had an automated alarm that we had to respond a crew to. Neither incident had any injuries and the loss was contained to the scrapped vehicles,” Wangen stated.

Roughly 21 men with the Carrington Fire Department responded with two pumpers and two tankers.
