CITY, ND – (NewsDakota.com) Counter Act Funds once used to educate students about the dangers of drugs have been returned to the city of Valley City.

City Attorney Russ Myhre says more than $30-thousand dollars was returned five years ago but the remaining $22-thousand dollars was released back to the city recently.

He says under the original agreement the funds were used for drug education.

City commissioner Mike Bishop says he would like to see a portion of the money used to hire a school resource officer in the Valley City school district.

Another option under discussion is a proposal to use the funds to help deal with a city budget shortfall.
